5/19/2023 0 Comments The shutterbug reviewTo do this, the active player selects a card to give to the opponent, and takes one blindly from his or her hand in return. When a player enters a space with another player’s pawn, the two may “trade tips,” thematically sharing rumors with fellow freelancers about creature sightings. If he passes through one of the cities, he may draw a tip card, and if he ends on a city, he may draw two. The current player can then move his pawn up to three spaces. From the bag, tiles are drawn and placed on their indicated locations until seven spaces have them. On a player’s turn, he begins by populating the board with photo tiles. Pawns are placed on city spaces, and play begins.Ī game of Shutterbug lasts eight rounds. To help with this, players also receive a hand of “tip” cards, which will be required to snap said photos. Assignments indicate particular creatures, of which players must get some number of photos. These are essentially players’ overall game objectives, and they will choose one of them to score at game end. Naturally, the better the picture, the more it’s worth.Įveryone receives two individual “assignments” from the tabloids. These represent the particular picture players can capture in that space, along with its relative image quality, ranging from one to three. Also included is a draw bag full of “photo tiles,” each corresponding to a certain space on the board. The board features six types of land in which the creatures can be found. The game is played out on an abstracted hex-map of the United States. Players must travel around the country, wresting their way through the wilderness in search of these Bigfoot-esque beasts. In this game, players are 1930s tabloid photographers, trying to snap career-defining shots of strange creatures rumored to be roaming throughout America. Of the three new “Titan” games from Calliope, I was the most excited about Shutterbug, primarily because of its awesome theme. It’s not a requirement, and I enjoy plenty of games that lack thematic immersion, but there’s just something about a game that makes me feel like I’m piloting a spaceship, digging for treasure, or conquering the planet Arrakis. If you’ve read my other reviews, you’ll know that I gravitate toward games with strong, original themes. This light family game is easy to learn, quick to play, and fun for all ages. Shutterbug is the third installment in the latest wave of Calliope Games’ “Titans” line.

Hmm: I want to give David Bradley a shake of the hand for attempting to take on such a brave part, one that was bound to be lambasted by Doctor Who fans no matter what direction he chose to take it. The Doctor simply does not know what to do when there is no-one to fight. The one note of originality for him was his reaction to this not being an evil plan. This is the actor that Russell T Davies had shoot his wife and children in the climax of an alien invasion and now he is reduced to this kind of cheap frivolity. The moment when the twelfth Doctor puts sunglasses on the first in the TARDIS and says ‘I love it’ I realised it was time for Capaldi to go. The Doctor Falls was a much more impressive finale for the character and the actor, I genuinely feel sorry that he has to twiddle his thumbs for an hour to wait for the Time Lady to arrive. It’s no mean feat because some of the hoops that Capaldi has been asked to jump through would destroy other actors but he’s so determined to make a success of this role and is so talented himself that he has managed to hold onto his dignity and unearthed terrific nuggets of gold in an era that can, at best, be described as ‘diverting but uneven.’ And here in his final hour he is asked not to stretch his acting muscles at all (or certainly not in the way that he was during the few moments when he was really pushed out of his comfort zone: Heaven Sent, The Zygon Inversion) but to walk a line between embarrassment for the (misplaced) sexism of his former self, having to explain continuity points from three series back and mawkishly saying goodbye to all of his friends and finally letting go of himself in a speech so drained of meaning that I literally wanted to jump in the screen and give him a shove to bring forth Whittaker. He’s walked through this battlefield of madness, indulgence and continuity and walked out with his head held high. He’s survived sonic sunglasses, becoming the President of the Earth, electric guitars, moon eggs, irritating children, tedious found footage, and love conquers all again and again and again. He’s survived Doctor Grumpy (‘Am I good man?’), Doctor Who Disco (‘Am I cool man?’) and Doctor Lecturer (‘Am I good Doctor?’), three completely different takes on the same character that might as well be different incarnations for all they have in common with one another. Indefinable: Peter Capaldi, the true survivor of the Steven Moffat. 5/19/2023 0 Comments Waveburner appTerminate WaveBurner 1.6.1 process(es) via Activity Monitorīefore uninstalling WaveBurner 1.6.1, you’d better quit this application and end all its processes. Making Folders in Obsidian works just as you’d expect, just hit the new folder button. Clicking on a tag there will perform the search for you and show results in the search menu. Or you can use the tag explorer, which you can find when you expand the right-side menu. To search for a note based on a tag, you can either use search by hitting Ctrl Shift F and then type the tag. You can add as many tags as you like, anywhere in your note, and the note will forever be associated with that tag or tags. Adding a hashtag followed by anything you want creates a tag. Tags in Obsidian work just like they do on Twitter or Instagram. These Are the Tools Obsidian Gives Us Obsidian’s Knowledge Graph In Obsidian, you have the choice of how you want to set up and optimize your ultimate note-taking system. At other times, however, we aren’t looking for anything specific, we just want to look through the notes we’ve already made, like leafing through a notebook.Īlmost any app can fulfill these three requirements but not every software does it effectively. Of course, we want to take notes, but we also want to be able to find them later on. There are three main functions of a note application. This might seem like an obvious question. What Do You Want from a Second Brain or Notes App? The Tag Browser makes it fast and easy to search by tag.You can add as many tags to a note as you want. You might be wondering how this is better than folders. For example, within the category History, I might create “Ancient” and “Modern.” Instead of making a folder called “History” with two folders inside it, I can use tags. You can add tags to any note just like you would on Twitter or Instagram however, you can also use nested tags to create a hierarchical structure to categorize your notes. The final method for organizing your notes in Obsidian is to use tags. Use Nested Tags to Organize Notes in Obsidian You can still add tags, categories, etc, to make it more sophisticated, but the requirements remain at just one link. But more importantly, it keeps your notes browseable and organized. How do you design a system for your worst days? Make it simple.Īdding one link only takes a second, so there’s never an excuse not to do it. Otherwise, when those days come, your system will fall apart. So, design your system for your worst day. But there will come a time when you feel tired, lazy, and don’t care about your system, you just need to take a note. Right now, you’re motivated, interested, and have the time to invest in creating a note-taking system. But there are two powerful tools you can use. Without folders or categories, you might think that it would be impossible to navigate a system like this. This is the best system to organize your notes if you want to set up a zettelkasten-style slip box. Finding notes in this system is slow and gets more difficult as the system gets biggerĢ.Do you make a new category folder every time you have one note for it?.Where do you put a note that fits in no category?.
5/19/2023 0 Comments Lost in random oddIn appearances, these fights take on the form of a third-person action game, but in reality Lost In Random plays like no action game I’ve laid my hands on. The game’s told as a broadly linear story, with the major locations unfolded into hub worlds of sorts, peppered with sidequests and collectibles – but tying it all together are fights with Even’s enemies, those trying to stop her reaching Sixtopia for reasons unknown. It’s never graphic, or outwardly grim, but there’s enough at work under the surface of Lost In Random’s population to give you pause.īut no matter how odd its characters might be, combat is where Lost In Random reveals its true strangeness. Except the answer here isn’t to mediate between them – it’s to collect tiny, screaming slime-animals so that your chosen half can blend them into a potion and chemically destroy their rival. One early sidequest asks you to solve a conflict between two sides of one man’s personality – half of him is emotional, the other half logical. Just like its movie references, this feels like a kid-friendly fairytale with an appealingly dark heart. But spending even a little time in the game’s world – full of curiously elongated humans, glum fish-men, and a giant mayor with an evil twin sprouting out of his hat – reveals that it’s living up to that comparison in spirit, too. It’s impossible not to notice Lost In Random’s art style first, with its world not just looking like, but moving like its animated movie inspirations (and how many games can you say remind you of Nightmare Before Christmas more than anything else?). What follows is an escape from her assigned home, as Even meets a living, magic die (named Dicey, naturally) and they team up for a journey through all six of Random’s realms – two of which I had the chance to play through in a roughly three-hour hands-on. But the game’s hero, Even, begins to suspect the game may be rigged after her older sister Odd rolls a six and is ripped away from her family of Ones, and seemingly sends a ghostly call for help. Roll a one and you’ll be sent to the sunken slums of Onecroft, roll a six and you’re welcomed into the heavenly Sixtopia, with a different town for every number in between. Please try again later.Lost In Random’s world is essentially a feudal system built on dice rolls – every citizen throws a magic die on their twelfth birthday, with chance deciding their future. Other well-known open source implementations of SSH include Dropbear (a stripped down version commonly used on routers and other IoT devices), libssh2 (it’s a different product to libssh, not merely a newer version) and PuTTY (widely used on Windows). OpenSSH is a completely separate implementation to libssh – they don’t include or rely on each other’s code. Security holes in SSH are therefore the stuff of nightmares for many sysadmins out there, and this one has certainly got the security newswires buzzing.īy far the most commonly used SSH version out there is an open source product called OpenSSH, created and maintained by the security-conscious folks at OpenBSD. Notable uses for SSH include secure file transfer between servers, and secure data synchronisation between data centres. SSH stands for secure shell, where the term shell is Unix-speak for a command prompt, the place where most Unix-style system administration functions are performed, whether manually by a logged-in human, or automatically via a logged-in script.īut SSH is used for much more than just shell logins because it creates what’s often called a secure tunnel – a general-purpose encrypted data channel between two computers on the internet. It’s scary because ssh, or SSH as it is often written, is probably the most widely deployed remote access protocol in the world.Īlmost all Unix and Linux servers use SSH for remote administration, and there are an awful lot of awfully large server farms out there, and so there’s an awful lot of SSH about. The flaw is more than just serious – it’s scary, because it theoretically allows anyone to log into a server protected with libssh without entering a password at all. This is a serious flaw – in fact, it’s a very serious flaw – in a free software library called libssh. Big, bad, scary bug of the moment is CVE-2018-10933. 5/19/2023 0 Comments Sat resultsBear this in mind when registering for the SAT! While occasional chewing on items should not be a problem, pica could be dangerous. If all other possibilities, such as a medical issue, have been ruled out, pica may be a compulsive disorder.Īlthough it mainly shows up in younger cats, pica can also appear in older cats as well. Cats may also be seeking attention, be hungry or be attracted to scents (grocery bags that contain meats for example). Environmental ConditionsĬats can get bored and therefore may need more mental or physical stimulation. Many cats will nurse on wool, says Arnold Plotnick MS, DVM, ACVIM, a veterinary. RELATED: 5 Foods You Should Never Feed Cats Medical Issuesīesides feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency (or FIV), pica can also be associated with diabetes or brain tumors. The urge to eat non-food items - called pica - can be pretty common in cats. Eating cat litter might mean the cat is anemic. While it’s normal for cats to eat a bit of grass, eating a large amount of plant material could mean something is missing from your cat’s diet. Wool sucking could be more of a nursing behavior, which is related to kneading. Wool sucking is seen more commonly in Siamese and Birman cats (not to be confused with Burmese cats). In any case, a cat needs to be examined by a veterinarian since pica can be caused by several things. However, pica can be associated with several diseases, such as feline immunodeficiency or feline leukemia. Some cats may find other strange items irresistible: paper, plastic grocery bags, houseplants, carpet and even electrical cords. This means fuzzy items, such as sweaters, stuffed animals, towels and fleece, will fall victim to this behavior. The younger the kitten, the greater the urge to nurse and the more likely she will suck on wool. The most common material associated with pica is usually wool such as blankets, socks, jackets, etc., but some cats will nibble on just about anything such as paper, plastic grocery bags, litter or shoelaces. For example, there is a behavior called “wool sucking,” which occurs in cats who are weaned too soon. Pica is the term used for the behavior of eating non-food material. Cats with pica were less commonly fed ad libitum than healthy cats. Many cats will nurse on wool, says Arnold Plotnick, DVM, a veterinary. Pica, the ingestion of inedible items, does not seem to be the consequence of a suboptimal environment or early weaning. The urge to eat nonfood items - called pica - can be pretty common in cats. Frequently reported items which cats may chew include wool, fabric, wood, plastic, paper and plants (Case, 2003. Cats with pica vomited significantly more often than control cats (P = 0.01). Pica involves ingestion of non-food items. Prevalence of self-sucking behavior was significantly higher in the pica group than the control group (P = 0.001). As per the research, Pica is caused by a deficiency in fiber or fat. In medical terminology, the symptom is called Pica. Some cats ingested specific items but only chewed others. Pica was directed most commonly at shoelaces or threads, followed by plastic, fabric, other items, rubber, paper or cardboard and wood. Pica is a condition in cats where they have an urge to eat non-food items such as dirt, rocks, plastic, and even cat litter. Associations between variables and groups were statistically tested. Owners of healthy cats not showing pica were also recruited into a control group. Medical problems: Cat pica is also associated with feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus, and it may be. Questions on early history and environment, as well as general health and gastrointestinal signs, were asked. Cat pica may be caused by many things, including: Dietary deficiencies: Some cats will eat their cat litter if they’re anemic, Plotnick says. Emphasis was put on the type of item ingested. Pica in cats is defined as ingestion of non-nutritive substances such as fabric, plastic, rubber, paper, cardboard, soil, string, and plants ().Most behavioral studies on pica published to date do not discriminate between actual ingestion and chewing or sucking on an item (1,2). Cat owners were recruited to participate in a questionnaire survey on pica behavior exhibited by their cats. The aim of this study was to characterize pica behavior in cats. |
